DigitalOcean Launches CSPM for Free Scans

2026-04-06 DIGITALOCEAN

DigitalOcean launched Cloud Security Posture Management, or CSPM, to give customers native visibility into infrastructure risks without needing third-party tooling. The feature is designed to surface misconfigurations, prioritize issues, and guide remediation directly in the console. The release is especially relevant for teams that want better security posture without building a separate security operations stack around their cloud account.

Key Features or Updates

CSPM provides agentless, in-dashboard visibility across DigitalOcean infrastructure, including Droplets and Databases. It continuously evaluates posture risks and highlights the issues that matter most. DigitalOcean is also offering unlimited free scans for every customer, with expanded rules, guidance, and API integrations available on upgraded plans.

Impact on Cloud Costs & Architecture

This lowers the operational cost of security review by removing the need for separate posture tooling in many cases. It also helps smaller teams improve compliance and hygiene without adding another always-on agent or service. Architecturally, CSPM can make security posture part of the deployment workflow rather than a separate audit phase, which is useful when environments change quickly.

Next Steps

Run an initial scan and use the highest-priority findings to clean up exposed services and drift first. Then decide whether you need the upgraded rules or API-based automation for larger environments. If you manage multiple projects on DigitalOcean, CSPM is a good candidate for standardizing baseline security checks.
